Finding the Right Fit

When I moved into my own place, I was given, among other things, a small cozy-looking rocking chair. At first, when I sat in it at the end of the day to watch TV or read, it seemed fine, but it turned out to be not quite so fine and began bothering my back.

So, I began going to the furniture store looking for a new chair that was a better fit. I sat in chairs where my feet didn’t quite touch the ground and others with seats so deep that I tipped back and had to grab the armrests to pull myself to an upright position. I finally realized I’d been returning over and over to the same furniture store hoping to find something that was not going to be there.

As frustrating as it is to not be able to find a chair that fits me, it shouldn’t be a big deal. After all, when my divorce was final, I had trouble finding a new life that fit me!

Where do you begin to search for a new life? There is no store you can visit that has those in stock. You can’t order one on Amazon or at a drive-thru window like ordering fries and a Diet Coke.

And, when you are no longer certain who you are, how do you know what new life would be a good fit? The search to rediscover who you are, or want to be, can be a wonderful adventure. Sometimes it will take you out into the world, other times it will take you deep into your heart. And, you will no longer need to return to places hoping to find answers that will not be there.

Whatever new life you choose to embrace, it will not have dimensions like a piece of furniture that will always be 33 inches wide. Its dimensions will expand and shift as you grow and experience more of life, and it will offer you joy and fulfillment.

“Let yourself be silently drawn by the stranger pull of what you really love…it will not lead you astray.

What you are seeking is seeking you.”
